![]() While the original Strand Brewery on Telo Avenue will be decommissioned, another up-and-coming Los Angeles craft brewery has purchased the brewhouse and related equipment. “they’re the best package for beer.” Six packs of 12-ounce cans also fit better with the laid-back brand identity, and distribution will continue to be handled by Wine Warehouse throughout California. To help move all this beer, Strand will begin canning core brews such as Atticus IPA, Beach House Amber and 24th Street Pale Ale. Brewmaster Joel Elliott is excited about having more space to move around after five years of crafting suds in the cramped brewhouse, and about developing some new recipes. Plus limited release brews that can be found in select locations. With the larger brewhouse and additional fermentation space, Marcello says he hopes to brew 9,000 barrels of beer in 2016 (up from the maxed-out annual capacity of 4,000 barrels at the original brewery), and he’s excited about opening new markets in the northern half of the state. 24 Dudes’ beers are always on tap which include our staple favorites such as CalifornIPA, Grandma’s Pecan English Style Brown and Blood Orange Amber. The new space will also feature expanded hours, the ability to hold private events and a food-truck friendly outdoor area. Not sure when we're heading back to the LA area again, but I'm sure we'll visit Monkish again when we do.There’s a lot of space to work with in the building: The area earmarked for the tap room is twice the size of the current brewery and will feature a 12-foot-long bar and communal seating. We're both music fans, we both love warmer weather, my husband loves his craft beer - we tremendously enjoyed the atmosphere at Monkish! If you're into collecting craft brewery souvenirs, make sure you're fiscally prepared! I thought the prices were reasonable, but the more you buy, the more quickly it adds up, and Monkish has so many interesting t-shirts, glasses, etc. The brewery has a very California/island-y vibe about it, likely because of the music selections (mostly reggae). That's just common sense, and that's exactly what we did. As with any craft brewery, if you're going there on a weekend, it's best to get there early. Project Barley Square Brewery specializes in cask conditioned, hand-pulled ales, embracing time-tested methods to create real ale right here in Southern California. I had a few sips, but IPAs aren't really my thing - I would have loved it if Monkish had a good porter or stout on the menu! Despite me not being interested in the beer selections, I really enjoyed chilling there for a bit. The concert was for me, the Monkish visit was for my husband. ![]() We visited Monkish before attending a concert on a Saturday evening. (smogcitybeer) Smog City has been around for over 12 years and is one of the best places to grab craft beer near Los Angeles.
